The Aug. 19 letter to the editor by George E. Hulstrand and the Aug. 9 article by the Tribune on the Barn Theatre are nothing more than an attack on Bonnie Wilhelm. I don't know Wilhelm or Hulstrand, in fact I don't even live in the same state as they. However, coming from the Willmar area, I do keep up with local events.
To say that Wilhelm should be separated from the Barn is atrocious. Every politician is involved in nonprofit charities; should we make them all stop volunteering? This is nothing more than far-left liberals bashing someone to get their way off-base views into office. I do know through speaking with people involved with the Barn that through the years, Wilhelm and her husband, Dr. Rob Kruger, have contributed more time, money, and efforts to the Barn than Hulstrand or anyone else.
Why should they be punished for running for office? One of the greatest parts of this country is that any citizen can disagree with the current government and run for office in an attempt to change it. It seems that Hulstrand and the Tribune are terrified that the general public may not actually agree with their views and want a change in office. These fears are shining very brightly. You are wrong for turning a simple mistake into a great big mud-slinging party. Shame on you, Mr. Hulstrand, for your childish actions. Shame on you, Tribune, for taking a simple mistake and turning into an opportunity for you to toot your own horn.
