Lately it seems like there have been a lot of celebrities getting arrested. As the story spreads, we sometimes hear of how the lawyer manages to get the celebrity off with the most minimal sentence available. Many critics point out how those celebrities still get star treatment, even in the courts.
But let's look at it from another point of view. Many of the crimes they've been charged with are gross misdemeanors and the story is printed in every periodical in the nation. Anyone else under a similar charge wouldn't get anywhere near that coverage. At the other extreme, I know someone who is currently serving a life sentence for a horrible crime. Although it happened in northern Minnesota, I didn't know anything about it until two years after it happened.
Let's face it; fame does have its disadvantages. If a celebrity so much as sneezes in somebody's face, the whole nation knows about it.
