Anyone else noticed that age-old word definitions are changing? What words meant when some of us were young, mean something different today.
Gay used to mean happy. Today it means homosexual. Takes some of the gusto away from singing, "Don we now our gay apparel."
Discriminate used to mean recognizing a difference. It is a good thing to discriminate right from wrong. Now, discriminate means to treat unfairly.
Problem is, today you can't recognize the difference between right and wrong without being accused of treating someone unfairly.
It used to be that tolerance meant being considerate of others even though you didn't accept their beliefs or practices. Today tolerance means accepting all beliefs and practices without any consideration of their rightness or wrongness, truthfulness or falsehood. The new tolerance accepts all beliefs and practices as equally valid, true and right. Problem is, those claiming to be tolerant today don't seem tolerant of those who still believe there is truth and falsehood, right and wrong. Doesn't that make today's tolerant, who call intolerant those who stand for truth and right, intolerant themselves?

A self-governing nation needs to be able to discriminate (recognize the difference) between right and wrong (what is tolerable and what is not). Some things are untolerable (unacceptable) because they are just plain wrong.
Changing the God-ordained definition of marriage is wrong. Not protecting the God-given life of unborn children is wrong. Breaking the God-spoken commandment not to bear false witness is wrong.
The Tribune editorial on Nov. 10 stated, "Willmar is developing an image of intolerance in Minnesota." What does that mean? If it means that the people of Willmar still differentiate right from wrong, accepting what is right and opposing what is wrong, then let Willmar lead the way for the rest of Minnesota!
By the way, wasn't it all of District 13 that elected a new senator, not just Willmar?
As much as today's tolerant find it intolerable, there are still those who stand for the truth instead of sanding off the truth.
