For whoever sits in the Oval Office for the next four years, it is going to be pure hell with continued in-fighting in the halls of Congress, the Sunnis against the Shiites with insurgents rising up everywhere as part of the mix. I don't think we can expect a political Messiah to emerge to right all wrongs of the Bush debacle, but we desperately need someone who can at least stop the insane direction we have been moving since our lone cowboy rode into Washington from Texas and began his tenure as a reckless cowboy shooting up the town.
No one is going to come up tomorrow with a perfect health care plan, create millions of jobs for our lagging industries, end the war in Iraq, save the environment, keep people secure in their overpriced homes, make a college education affordable for all, end abortion, extend civil rights to all citizens, etc., ignoring all the while the fact that the federal government is trillions of dollars in debt to foreign nations, not counting the credit-card debt of every family in the land, the ongoing cost of the war in Iraq added to the present deficit, or the fact that our need for oil can reduce us to a Third-World nation in short order.
A recession or depression is here on our doorstep. We must wake up to the reality of what that means. Listen to the political candidates and they will tell us that light is breaking on the horizon! It will soon be morning again in America! Well, we might as well forget about that because the dawn shows us a different picture and it is going to take more than a self-styled Messiah to rescue us from our own greed and shortsightedness.
We don't deserve to be rescued anyway because we brought it all down on our own heads. Prayer is not going to help any more than it has with the Iraqi war. Either God is stone deaf or he thinks we should stew in our own juice. He can't be that cruel, can he? Wanna bet?
