Thank you Inga Urke, Chris Peterson and Phil Drietz for your letters on Oct. 27 and 28. Right on!
It seems that most political candidates avoid any mention of the subject of abortion and their position regarding it.
How many people do not know that taxpayers are funding abortions in our state of Minnesota? We need the Abortion Regulation Act to be signed into law. This legislation would stop taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions in Minnesota. The passage of this act was approved by the House of Representatives twice in the 2006 sessions, but the Senate, under the leadership of Sen. Dean Johnson, prevented a vote on this bill.
From 1994 to 2004, Minnesota taxpayers were forced to pay more than $9.4 million for 35,000 abortions. In 2004 alone, taxpayers paid $1.4 million for 4,100 abortions. The situation is somewhat better since Gov. Pawlenty signed into law the Positive Alternatives Act in 2005. Pawlenty has supported and signed into law three major pro-life bills -- so there is hope!
