Letter: What's wrong with the U.S.

The United States is having a tough time with many disasters taking a big toll on the country. Our future doesn't look rosy and the blame is on all of us.

It's easy to blame our president, the war, floods, fires and hurricanes as well as overwhelming gas and food prices, but we must share some of the blame too, for presenting a less-than-desirable image of ourselves without regard to wanting to give our country a needed boost, by building up our own personal image and discarding our old bad ones. That can be done!

Let's begin with the unattractive hairstyles that a lot of men and women expose the world to. Nothing that a scissors, comb or brush and a good shampoo couldn't cure, and give a lot of Americans a cause to rejoice.

One of our states is trying to help build up our country's reputation by requiring people to pull up their baggy pants to the waist and quit exposing their bare bellies and unmentionables or face fines. Hurray! Then maybe we'll be able to dine out and enjoy the food.

Television, radio, magazines and the movies need a good house-cleaning with what they say, print and expose to corrupt the younger generation. Nothing is withheld from the public anymore, including profanity.

Do you enjoy turning on your television to get the morning news and having to witness a pretty young woman sitting before you in a short, tight skirt with her legs crossed, wearing a skimpy low-cut blouse? When the camera focuses on her, the nation's news is all but forgotten, and attention is not on caring and correcting the image of America.

And a lot of us are wondering why we have been asked to donate our old cars to the poor. How will they be able to afford the price of gas, the insurance, the license to run it? Many of them would have to give up their cell phones and that would be hard. Many people are giving up their own cars because they cannot afford to drive them anymore. Bicycles are the latest craze.
