Link Steffen to be inducted into Southwest's Hall of Honor

MARSHALL -- Link Steffen, who won the Tribune's Hengstler-Ranweiler Award for top male athlete in the area in 1993, will be inducted into the Southwest Minnesota State University Hall of Honor on today with four other SMSU athletes.

MARSHALL -- Link Steffen, who won the Tribune's Hengstler-Ranweiler Award for top male athlete in the area in 1993, will be inducted into the Southwest Minnesota State University Hall of Honor on today with four other SMSU athletes.

Steffen graduated from Granite Falls-Clarkfield in 1993 and was a standout in football, wrestling and baseball. He was a two-time state wrestling champion and finished his prep career with a 122-24 record.

At SMSU, Steffen wrestled for four years and compiled a 114-22 record that included an NCAA Division II national title in 1998 at 190 pounds. He was a three-time national qualifier and a two-time All-America. In baseball, He also played baseball for two seasons and batted ,292 with two home runs in 34 games.

Steffen has been the head wrestling coach at Zumbrota-Mazeppa for the past three seasons and has posted a 42-18 record. He was the head coach at Yellow Medicine East in 2000. He is currently working at the Red Wing Correctional Facility as an Occupational/Life Skills instructor.
