Litchfield man killed Sunday night on icy road west of Grove City

GROVE CITY -- A Litchfield man was killed, and six others were injured, in a two-vehicle head-on accident Sunday night on icy roads on U.S. Highway 12 in Meeker County.

The accident was reported at 6:22 p.m. Sunday on Highway 12 and 515th Avenue in Acton Township between Atwater and Grove City.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Fidencio Ramirez Rojas, 37, was driving a 2002 Nissan pickup east on Highway 12 when he lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the center line and collided with a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Lenny Braun, 56, of Ipswich, S.D. that was traveling west.

Rojas was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Braun and two passengers in his vehicle, Daniel Braun, 14, and Kelsey Braun, 21, had what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Three passengers in Rojas’ vehicle, Juan Martinez Garcia, 44, of Litchfield, Miguel Hernandez, 26, of Litchfield, and Pedro Godoy, 43, hometown not listed, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Roads were in icy condition at the time, according to the State Patrol, which was assisted at the scene by the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office, the Grove City Rescue Squad, Grove City Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Atwater Ambulance, Willmar Ambulance and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office.
