LITCHFIELD -- Kristopher Keith Litzau, 22, of Grove City, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a second-degree assault charge in connection to a July 3 incident that included shooting a handgun at two people in Grove City.

The plea was entered in Meeker County District Court. Litzau will be sentenced Aug. 15. Because it is his first felony conviction, Litzau will not face prison time, according to Meeker County Attorney Stephanie Beckman.

The charges, including second-degree attempted murder by drive-by shooting and three other second-degree assault charges, were filed after a Meeker County deputy was dispatched around 4:45 a.m. July 3 to Lindstrom Avenue West. While the deputy was en route, he was informed that Litzau was in possession of a handgun and was "out of control."

Witnesses said Litzau was parked outside of the home when the vehicle they were in stopped along side. The driver and two passengers said they saw Litzau raise the black handgun and that he suddenly started his vehicle, striking their vehicle, when they attempted to speak to him.

Litzau drove into the vehicle again and then around the house twice more to strike the vehicle repeatedly. He ran over the foot of a 16-year-old witness during the mayhem.

After the last pass around the house, witnesses said Litzau stopped the vehicle, pointed the gun in the direction of two people and fired the weapon. The shot missed a 22-year-old woman, but buckshot from a shotgun round fired from the .45-caliber Taurus Judge handgun was located just 8 feet from where she stood.
