LITCHFIELD -- At a special council meeting Monday, the Litchfield City Council approved hiring former city manager Bruce Miller as a consultant.

Miller will work on a wide range of projects, including economic development work, for the city, according to Litchfield Mayor Vern Madson. Miller retired last month after almost 20 years as the city's administrator.

"Bruce wanted a smooth transition. This is part of that smooth transition, to keep our projects going," Madson said.

The length of the contract between the city and Miller is for as long as is necessary and either party can rescind the contract after 90 days. Miller will be paid $75 per hour under the contract.

The city is searching for a new administrator and has received resumes after posting the job opportunity on the League of Minnesota Cities Web site. Those resumes are under review by the city's personnel committee, Madson said.

The city council also canvassed and certified the Nov. 7 election of Madson as mayor and Barb Altringer, Gary Walz and Steve Black as council members. All will serve four-year terms. Altringer represents the city's first ward and Walz represents the fifth ward. Black was elected to the council in the third ward. Council member Peter Kormanik did not seek re-election for the third ward council seat.
