LITCHFIELD -- The Litchfield City Council will seek bids for a new grass firefighting rig for the city's Fire Department. The decision was made at the Monday council meeting.

The new rig will replace existing equipment, according to Vern Madson, mayor of Litchfield. The city has applied for a $5,000 matching grant from the state for the tank and pump portion of the rig, which costs approximately $10,000.

Madson said the estimated cost of the rig is $39,200 and includes the firefighting equipment, along with a full-size, four-wheel drive crew-cab pickup and accessories.

The council also discussed the city's solid waste ordinance after conversing with Pete Peterson of Peterson Solid Waste of Dassel. The council directed the city attorney to examine the ordinance, which doesn't allow vendors like Peterson to offer roll-off container services in the city. The attorney's recommendations will be discussed at the Dec. 4 meeting.
