School Board set to meet Monday in Blomkest
WILLMAR -- The Willmar School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Blomkest Community Center. The board normally meets in Willmar but periodically conducts its meetings in the other communities in the School District. Meetings in the other communities begin at 5:30 p.m.
The board will discuss potential budget cuts and consider whether to raise local property taxes to help fund a performance pay plan for teachers.
A committee of teachers and administrators has met since last fall to develop a performance pay plan, commonly called Q-Comp, for the district's teachers. The group will present its plan to the board Monday, in preparation for a teachers' meeting on May 5.
The group will ask the School Board to consider using a local tax levy to supplement additional state aid available to districts with Q-Comp plans.

The board will also review a list of budget cuts for the 2006-07 school year. The cuts and fee increases total about $850,000. The budget cuts are needed to address declining enrollment, rising costs and limited increases in state aids.
The board is not expected to take final action on the budget cuts until the May 8 and May 22 meetings.
