WILLMAR -- A 42-year-old Watkins man who pleaded guilty to a first-degree drug charge was sentenced Wednesday to more than nine years in prison.

Jack Arther Martinson was charged with two first-degree controlled substance crimes, one for conspiracy to sell, after a CEE-VI Drug Task Force investigation linked him to area drug sales.

Martinson pleaded guilty to one of the first-degree charges in October and was sentenced Wednesday to 110 months in prison and fined $50 by Judge Kathryn N. Smith. As part of the plea agreement the remaining charge along with another file against Martinson were dismissed. Martinson also asked the state to recommend an imposed sentence in the middle of the sentencing guidelines for a similar crime.

Martinson was arrested in Watkins in July after a CEE-VI investigation found a half-pound of cocaine, methamphetamine and more than $2,000 in cash in his home.

According to the criminal complaint, CEE-VI agents were able to purchase an ounce of Cocaine from Martinson and another man during a June 7 incident. The CEE-VI agents used a confidential informant to purchase the cocaine for $1,200 at a gas station in Kandiyohi.

Although Martinson did not sell the drugs directly, the informant later identified Martinson as the supplier of the cocaine.
