Montevideo man suffers life-threatening injuries in crash Friday near Clara City, Minnesota

A 19-year-old Montevideo man was taken to St. Cloud Hospital Friday morning following a crash in which he was a passenger.

RHEIDERLAND TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old Montevideo man was taken by ambulance to the CentraCare — St. Cloud Hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in a crash just before 11 a.m. Friday morning on a snow- and ice-covered road east of Clara City, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.

Marlon Jose Hoyes Luno, 19, of Montevideo, was a passenger in a Chevrolet pickup going westbound on Minnesota Highway 23 driven by Henrri Ariel Lopez Palazios, 28, of Montevideo.

The Chevrolet attempted to pass another westbound vehicle near milepost 127 in Rheiderland Township, lost control, and crashed into an eastbound Chrysler 300 driven by Meryl Marlene Kuechle, 20, of Eden Valley.

Palazios and Kuechle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to CentraCare — Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar via ambulance.

A 56-year-old parolee was arrested and is in the Meeker County Jail after CEE-VI Drug and Gang Task Force agents assisted the Minnesota Department of Corrections with a home visit in Litchfield Friday.

All those involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, and no alcohol was detected, according to the report.

Assisting at the scene of the crash were Raymond Emergency Medical Services, Clara City Fire and EMS, Chippewa County Ambulance and Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.
