One killed Saturday morning crash on Highway 40 west of Willmar

A South Dakota woman died in a crash Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 40 and Kandiyohi County Road 7 west of Willmar.

WILLMAR — One 56-year-old South Dakota woman died Saturday morning in a crash at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 40 and Kandiyohi County Road 7 west of Willmar.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Daniel Scott Berglund, 62, of La Bolt, South Dakota, was traveling east on Highway 40 and a 2019 Kenworth tractor/trailer was traveling north on County Road 7 when the vehicles collided.

Berglund was taken to CentraCare-Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with non-life threatening injuries. The female passenger in the vehicle was also from Labolt, but her name had not been released Saturday evening.

The driver of the semi, Korey Walter Cox, 40, of York, Alabama, was uninjured.

According to the State Patrol report, Cox was wearing a seat belt, but the occupants of the Berglund vehicle were not. Alcohol was not considered a factor.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Pennock Fire Department, Raymond Fire Department, CentraCare EMS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also responded to the scene.
