GRANITE FALLS — A pilot was airlifted to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale following a plane crash around 7 a.m. Friday just east of the Granite Falls Airport, according to a news release from the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office.
Steven Lindquist, 67, of Granite Falls, was flying a small 1971 American Aviation AA-1A two-seat plane when it crashed in a field, according to the news release from Casey Namken, investigator and emergency management.
Lindquist exited the plane and was walking when someone called to report the crash, according to the news release. He was treated at the scene before being airlifted by North Memorial Air Care. His medical status is currently unknown.
The FAA has been contacted and will be investigating the crash.
Assisting at the scene were the Granite Falls Police Department, Granite Falls Fire Department, Granite Falls Ambulance, North Air Care, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol.
