SPICER — More than 100 runners took to the streets Sunday morning along the calm shores of Green Lake to compete in this year's Green Lake Road Run. The event, which shares in Fourth of July festivities on the weekend in Spicer, features a grueling 12-mile race along the shore of Green Lake.

Residents along the heavily residential route set up lawn chairs and wrapped up in blankets to get cozy on the lazy Sunday morning to wave and cheer on the runners as they passed in waves.
Willmar-based runner Nadir Yusuf, who crossed the finish line with a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes and 36 seconds, came ahead of second-place finisher Riley Burgstahler of Kerkhoven, who finished with a time of 1 hour, 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

Spicer's own Jessa Hanson took the top spot for the female division, finishing with a time of 1 hour, 10 minutes and 19 seconds. Sam Hanson, also of Spicer, finished second overall with a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 27 seconds.
The event featured a total of 131 competitors who finished the lengthy race, consisting of 73 men and 58 women.
