DAWSON -- Lois Jean Gritmacker, 76, of Dawson, died Friday at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson.

The service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a closing prayer service at 8 p.m. at Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

She was born June 2, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Melvin and Leona (Weber) Anderson. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1947, and went to Normal Training to become a teacher. She taught for three years in country school near Gary, S.D.

She married Arnold Gritmacker on Feb. 18, 1951, at Augusta Lutheran Church in Marietta.

They lived and farmed in the Canby and Dawson communities. She moved to Dawson in 1990. She cooked and baked for the Swedish Inn Restaurant. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Grace Lutheran Christian Women and was a volunteer for the Bible Study program. She also served on the church Fellowship Board.

She is survived by her children: Roger (and Sheri) Gritmacker of Dawson, Gloria Maurice of Willmar, Kenneth (and Mary) Riley of Ramsey, Joyce (and Greg) Wipf of Edmunds, Wash., and Mary Gritmacker of Montevideo; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nine siblings: Doris Nelson of Henry, S.D., Robert Anderson of Minneapolis; LaVonne (and Dale) Helkenn of Clark, S.D., Janice (and Ethan) Farnam of Longville, Wash., Don (and Becky) Anderson of Moravian Fall, N.C., David (and Penny) Anderson of Prior, Okla., Donna (and Dick) Runge of Fort Pierre, S.D., Linda (and Ron) Butler of Arizona, and John (and Jackie Anderson) of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers: Marvin and Leslie Anderson; and a daughter-in-law.
