SUNBURG -- Lois Joy Peterson, 68, of Sunburg died Thursday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home in New London.

She was born July 11, 1939, in Barry to Ernest "Bud" and Beulah (Bates) Smith. She went to a country school in rural Dumont and graduated in 1957 from West Central School of Agriculture. She attended the University of Minnesota. She interned at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she was certified as an X-ray technician. She continued to work there.

She married Marvin D. Peterson on Nov. 22, 1958, in Dumont. They lived in St. Paul from 1958 to 1981. In 1981, they moved to the New London area. In 1992, they moved to Games Lake.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Norway Lake, where she was active in choir, WELCA and was prayer chain facilitator. She volunteered with Rice Hospice for 11 years.

She is survived by her husband; daughters: Pamela (and Troy) Haverly of New London, Shelly (and Brian) Ziemer of New London; grandchildren; siblings: Dennis (and Kathy) Smith of Brooklyn Center, Sam Smith of Washington state, Mary Kaye Smith of Brooklyn Park, and Bonnie (and Ken) Warner of Dilworth.
