LAKE LILLIAN — District 5 Kandiyohi County Commissioner Harlan Madsen announced Tuesday that he intends to seek re-election.
Madsen, a rural Lake Lillian farmer, is the longest-serving member of the current County Board, first elected in 1994.
“I am dedicated to continue to use my commonsense leadership skills and experience to make decisions that are focused on a positive vision for our county,” he said in his announcement.
He said the dramatic events and extraordinary times today should propel innovation and the building of stronger relationships to achieve good outcomes for everyone.
Madsen said he will make decisions based on research and data in order to wisely and efficiently use county resources and that the county must continue to take action to address economic challenges.

His announcement also highlighted the need to partner with providers on mental well-being issues and the need to create a better quality of life for everyone amid significant demographic and technology changes.
“Certainly, these last months have clearly demonstrated our broadband capacity deficiency. The challenges faced by business and schools must be solved if we are going to be competitive in our future,” he said in a news release.
“We need strong leaders now more than ever. I have the dedication, passion, integrity, energy and leadership experience to … move Kandiyohi County in a positive direction.”
District 5 is the most rural of the commissioner districts, extending across the southern half of the county and including the cities of Atwater, Blomkest, Kandiyohi, Lake Lillian, Prinsburg and Raymond.
