BROOTEN -- Louise Emma Friese, 96, of Brooten died Sunday at Glenwood Retirement Villa in in Glenwood.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Brooten. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
She was born Feb. 12, 1910, in Erie Township, Becker County, to Frank and Wilhelmine Langer. She grew up on the family farm and attended the Erie Township Grade School. After her schooling, she helped neighbors with housework, farm chores and other odd jobs.

She married Albert Friese on Nov. 1, 1933. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and then moved to Brooten. They farmed until 1957, when they purchased the Kitchen Café in Brooten. They retired in 1967 and moved into Brooten. Albert died in 1986. She moved to her daughter's home in 1993, and to the Glenwood Retirement Villa in April.
She is survived by her children: Zona (and Erling) Baalson of Brooten, Courtney (and Clara) Friese of Redwood Falls, Marlin (and Betty) Friese of Barrett, Ann Henze of Alliance, Neb., Kay (and Jack) Brock of Alliance, Neb., Lorna (and John) Dierks of Sauk Centre; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson; two brothers and one sister.
