MADISON -- The Lac qui Parle Valley School Board has approved a two-year contract with the Lac qui Parle Valley Education Association. The contract was ratified by teachers on Monday and approved by the board Monday night.
The contract is effective from July 1, 2005, to June 30, 2007. The agreement provides an increase of 3.1 percent on the salary schedule during the first year and an increase of 2.2 percent during the second year on the salary schedule. Superintendent Bob Munsterman said it "feels very good" to have completed the negotiations.
In related business, the board approved a state-required report saying the contract will not place the school district's finances in any structural imbalance.
In other business, the board voted to designate two vacation days as snow makeup days if weather forces the school to cancel classes. The school has already had two snow days, said Munsterman.
If a third snow day is called, classes will be made up on Feb. 17, which had been scheduled for winter break.

Anything beyond those two days will roll into June, said Munsterman. The district schedules 176 days for students, but wants a minimum of 172 days, he said.
