New London-Spicer and MACCRAY are each off to a 3-0 start this season in football and now each faces an unbeaten team in a key conference road battle Friday night.

New London-Spicer, which has outscored its three opponents 126-40 this season, will take on Albany in a West Central North Conference clash that could determine the loop title. Albany, a perennial conference power and defending champions, has outscored its opponents 115-23 this season.

Albany won 43-15 last season in New London.

New London-Spicer will give up some size in the trneches to the Huskies, but has more overall team speed. The Wildcats have been primarily a running team to date, led by Shawn Halliday with 311 yards and four touchdowns. Jay Moten has gained 181 yards in only 13 carries and scored twice and Taylor Dammermann has 140 yards and four touchdowns. NLS has thrown only 26 passes in three games.

MACCRAY, which defeated 2007 Class A state runner-up Adrian in its opener, will meet Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in Tracy. Both teams feature a diversified offense that can reach the end zone on the ground or through the air.

MACCRAY averages 35.3 points-per-game and allows 12 points-per-game, whi;e the Panthers score 51.7 and allow only 4.3.

MACCRAY quarterback Caleb Hanson threw four touchdown passes last week in a 41-8 victory over Murray County Central. He has thrown for over 500 yards this season with seven touchdowns. Jay Hilbrands has 18 receptions for 232 yards and five touchdowns. The Wolverines also have a strong running attack with Abe Winter having gained 381 yards and scored three touchdowns.

One that was missed

Maybe he was such a blur running that the scorekeepers missed it, but when we received a report on the BOLD at Yellow Medicine East football game last Friday night, we were told the Sting's second touchdown was a two-yard run by Tyler Sand, who scored YME's first touchdown on a short run.

Actually, the second one was a 90-yard kickoff return by Mason Hegna in BOLD's 51-14 win over YME.

Hegna (pictured right in the football leaders) is currently tied for the area sack lead with five.
