Madison woman killed in motorcycle crash near Appleton


APPLETON — One person was killed and another injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon south of Appleton in Lac qui Parle County.

The accident happened around 4:43 p.m. on state Highway 119 and 340th Street.

Road conditions were wet at the time of the crash and alcohol may have been a factor.

According to State Patrol, Linda Joyce Brandstrom, 72, of Madison, was killed in the crash.

She was a passenger on a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Steven Harvey Dunkley, 66, of Madison.


The State Patrol report said the motorcycle was going south on Highway 119 near 340th street when Dunkley lost control of the bike and crashed on the road.

Dunkley was taken to St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Dunkley and Brandstrom were not wearing helmets and the report indicates alcohol was detected in Dunkley.

The Lac qui Parle County Sheriff's Office, Swift County Sheriff's Office, Appleton Police Department, Appleton Ambulance, Appleton Fire Department and Madison Ambulance all assisted at the scene of the crash.
