The Kandiyohi County sheriff says the man accused of trying to kill Atwater Police Chief Reed Schmidt has been cited for assaulting another prisoner in the County Jail.
Sheriff Dan Hartog says 24-year-old Brian Robert Detlefsen of Atwater allegedly assaulted another prisoner in the jail in Willmar, where he's being held on a charge of attempted murder for the November 14th attack on Schmidt.
Schmidt, who lost an eye in the attack, shot and wounded Detlefsen.
The sheriff says Detlefsen has been cited for fifth degree assault, a misdemeanor, and will likely make a court appearance next week.
Detlefsen is being held on $200,000 bail on ten different charges.
