Man airlifted for injuries sustained in Atwater crash

ATWATER-- A Kerkhoven man was airlifted to the hospital for injuries he sustained in a collision between a semitrailer and passenger vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Atwater.

ATWATER-- A Kerkhoven man was airlifted to the hospital for injuries he sustained in a collision between a semitrailer and passenger vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Atwater.

Jonathan Bode, 19, of Atwater was reportedly driving eastbound around noon in a 1999 Oldsmobile on Kandiyohi County Road 23 when he reportedly pulled in front of the 2002 International semi, Police Chief Jim Felt said. The driver of the semi, John Cunningham, 53, of Atwater was traveling northbound on Kandiyohi County Road 4 at the time of the accident.

The passenger of the car, Travis Wennerberg, 19, of Kerkhoven reportedly sustained moderate injuries, was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital, Felt said.

Bode sustained what were reported as minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Rice Hospital in Willmar. Cunningham was reportedly not injured.

Responding the crash were the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol, Atwater and Willmar Ambulances, Atwater and Kandiyohi Fire Departments and the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad.
