LITCHFIELD -- A 27-year-old Litchfield man was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday afternoon after barricading himself and a shotgun into a rural Litchfield home.

According to Meeker County Sheriff Mike Hirman, deputies had been attempting to locate Thomas Warren Pitts on a felony warrant of failing to register as a sex offender. Around 3:30 p.m., investigators learned that he was at a home along the 22200 block of 640th Avenue.

Deputies arrived at the home, south and east of Litchfield, to find Pitts barricaded into the home with a 20-gauge shotgun. Negotiations began and eventually Pitts surrendered the gun and was taken into custody.

He will be charged with failure to register as a sex offender, plus a new charge for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Assisting at the scene were the Litchfield Police Department and Gold Cross Ambulance.
