WILLMAR -- A 21-year-old Willmar man made his first appearance Monday on a felony charge of motor vehicle theft, plus misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct and property damage, for allegedly beating up a woman and stealing her car, which was found later submerged in Willmar Lake.

Unconditional bail was set at $20,000 for Jesus Immanuel Molina. Conditional bail was set at $5,000. His next appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court is June 1.

According to the complaint, a Willmar police officer was called around 11 p.m. April 28 to the emergency room of Rice Memorial Hospital to take a report on a domestic assault. A woman, who had an extremely black and blue eye, bloody ears and bruises and cuts on her arms and hands, reported that she had been assaulted by Molina and his sister in Regency East.

She said she had told Molina she couldn't see him anymore and that the siblings both beat her up before he took her vehicle, a 1997 Saturn.

The woman said she ran to a nearby home, from where a couple brought her to the hospital.
