WILLMAR -- A 30-year-old Willmar man made his first appearance Friday on a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for allegedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old boy in January.

Unconditional bail was set at $75,000 for Manuel De Jesus Diaz-Orellana. Conditional bail was allowed at $20,000. His next court appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court is Feb. 17.

According to the complaint, a Willmar police officer was called Jan. 26 to a home in the southwest quadrant of the city on a sexual assault. A man there reported his child had told him he had been assaulted by Diaz-Orellana, who was a renter at the home.

Diaz-Orellana was interviewed and said the child had attempted to kiss him, but that he had told him that's not what men do to each other.

The child was interviewed and said that Diaz-Orellana had covered his eyes with a cloth and said they were going to play a game before assaulting him.
