WILLMAR - The 31-year-old Litchfield man charged with felony counts of first- and second-degree attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a woman appeared Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing in Meeker County District Court.
Carlos Alberto Sandoval Ramirez will make his next court appearance Dec. 15 for an omnibus hearing. He remained in custody Wednesday in the Meeker County Jail, according to the online custody list.
The criminal complaint alleges that Ramirez stabbed a Litchfield woman Aug. 8 at her home after he had been fighting with her.
A witness at the residence allegedly told Litchfield police that she heard screams and ran to the woman’s bedroom where she found Ramirez restraining the woman and stabbing her.
The complaint alleges that the witness stopped the attack, but not before the woman was seriously injured.
Litchfield police found the woman in the bedroom with several knife wounds on her body. Emergency first aid was administered to her and she was transported by ambulance to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield and later by air to a trauma center.
The woman told police that Ramirez repeatedly told her he was going to kill her and she was afraid she was going to die.
Meeker County Attorney Anthony Spector had earlier requested that Ramirez be required to provide a swab for DNA and fingerprints as evidence, and Judge Stephanie Beckman granted this request Sept. 15.
