CROOKSTON -- Polk County prosecutors charged a 52-year-old man with attempted murder after a man was stabbed in the chest with a steak knife at a Crookston retirement home.

Brian Christopher Mitre of Crookston appeared Monday in Polk County District Court on felony charges of attempting to commit murder in the first-degree, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

Crookston police were called to Oak Court Assisted Living Facility in Crookston for reports of a stabbing shortly after noon Friday, according to the criminal complaint filed against Mitre.

Court documents state officers found 68-year-old Gary Anderson with a steak knife sticking out of his chest in the home’s main office.

Anderson told officers Mitre began hitting him in front of one of the living units and that suddenly there was a knife sticking out of him. Footage from security cameras showed Mitre lunging at Anderson twice, then running out the back door of the building. Mitre was found sitting in a gazebo.
