DULUTH - A 28-year-old man from the Twin Cities died in a skiing accident on Spirit Mountain at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the Duluth Police Department reported.
The man suffered a head injury. He appeared to be skiing alone at the time of the accident and wasn't wearing a helmet.
His name was being withheld Saturday, pending notification of family. The accident remained under investigation.
A Duluth police officer, at the base of one of the ski area's runs late Saturday, confirmed that the man had been bleeding from the ears, eyes and mouth. A second Duluth police officer said he thought the man struck a tree.
Rescue workers used a snowmobile to retrieve the man's body from the hillside late Saturday afternoon.
