LITCHFIELD -- A 20-year-old Minneapolis man has been returned to the Meeker County Jail and faces first-degree burglary, assault and escape from custody charges after he allegedly escaped from custody and assaulted an elderly woman and her caregiver Monday.
According to Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, his office received a call just before noon from a corrections officer that Antonio Lamont Green had escaped from custody as he was escorted from the county courthouse.
Green had fled south on Ramsey Avenue and an immediate search of that area was conducted by the sheriff's office and Litchfield Police Department.
Approximately 5 minutes later, a sheriff's deputy heard a person yelling for help at 210 North Swift Ave. and observed the suspect crash out of a screen door at this address. Officers took Green into custody.
Further details revealed that the suspect had entered the house of an 87-year-old woman and requested a telephone and a change of clothes. A health care worker at the home noticed the suspect's orange clothes and the law enforcement presence in the area and went to the door for help. The suspect grabbed her and threw her to the floor causing minor injuries to her knee and shoulder. During this altercation, the elderly woman also suffered an injury to her head and knee by the suspect.
