WILLMAR -- A 26-year-old Willmar man was arraigned Monday on felony charges for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and for making terroristic threats for allegedly threatening family members with a machete Friday.

Unconditional bail was set at $50,000 for Ulises Sanchez in Kandiyohi County District Court. Unconditional bail was allowed for $3,000 cash only. Conditions set by Judge Donald M. Spilseth include no contact with the family members, exclusion from the family home and no possession of firearms or dangerous weapons.

According to the complaint, Willmar police were called around 9:20 a.m. Friday to a home on the city's southeast side. A man reported that another man was threatening him and other family members with a machete.

Police officers talked with Sanchez, who said they had a verbal argument, but denied ever having a knife or machete. Others at the home said they saw Sanchez with a machete in his hand, yelling and swearing.

The reporting party told officers Sanchez had been using methamphetamine for about a week and that he had threatened to kill them, or hold another man hostage, if he didn't get more drugs.
