Man found dead in rural Pope County

Officials are investigating the late Wednesday death of a man in Gilchrist Township.

Pope County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene at a rural Gilchrist Township home around 11:24 p.m. after receiving a 911 call. The call stated an individual had been shot at the residence, according to a release by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Police found a distraught female outside of the home and dead male inside. Investigators believe both people live at the residence.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating the crime and do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.

Sheriff’s deputies and agents are conducting interviews with the female and any possible witnesses.

The man’s body will be taken to the Anoka County Medical Examiner for autopsy and formal identification.
