Man found on road near Watkins pronounced dead

WATKINS -- A Paynesville man, who was found lying in the middle of a road near Watkins early Wednesday morning, was later pronounced dead at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital.

WATKINS -- A Paynesville man, who was found lying in the middle of a road near Watkins early Wednesday morning, was later pronounced dead at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital.

The individual was identified as Andrew Ralph Brutger, 44, of Paynesville.

An autopsy will be performed by the Meeker County Coroner's Office to determine the cause of death.

According to a press release, the Meeker County Sheriff's Department received a call at 4:53 a.m. that an individual was in the middle of the road on 677 Avenue, about ½ mile south of 380 Street near Watkins. The initial report indicated the individual was not breathing and didn't have a pulse.

By the time authorities arrived, CPR had been started by a passerby. Emergency personnel took over efforts to revive Brutger. He was taken to Meeker County Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
