ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) -- A man shot by police in St. Cloud was hospitalized in critical condition Monday.

Officers say they were called to an apartment building early Saturday after a man fired a large caliber handgun inside his apartment and several more rounds out in the street.

Tactical officers surrounded the building while negotiators tried to talk with the man. A couple hours later, the man fired through his living room window and struck several nearby apartment buildings. Police then returned fire. About a half hour later, officers saw the man had been wounded. Police say the 25-year-old man had three gunshot wounds inflicted by an officer. He was taken to St. Cloud Hospital.

No one in the adjacent apartment buildings was injured.
