The man who killed his ex-girlfriend and then himself Sunday was facing charges in Kandiyohi County District Court for threatening to kill his daughter and her boyfriend.

Gary Alfred Wrobleski, 46, of Benson, shot and killed Linda Jean Klyve, 47, of rural Starbuck, at her home early Sunday morning.

Klyve, a nurse at the Swift County-Benson Hospital, and Wrobleski broke up after a long relationship just a few days before the incident, Pope County Sheriff Tom Larson said.

Wrobleski was "distraught" about the break up, Larson said.

Wrobleski committed suicide later Sunday morning in a wooded area outside of Benson.

"Our case came to a close really quickly when we found him," Larson said. "They were able to connect the gun to the gun used in the murder of Klyve and make the match."

Though Wrobleski, a self-employed concrete contractor, didn't have a long history of domestic assault, court documents show he was facing a felony charge for threatening his daughter and her boyfriend in May.

The complaint says police were called to a Willmar apartment on May 24, where Wrobleski's daughter said her father threatened to kill her and her boyfriend during a phone call the night before.

She also said Wrobleski had just visited her apartment and threatened her again.

She said Wrobleski did not like her boyfriend.

Wrobleski also told his daughter he wouldn't pay for her cellphone anymore, the compliant says.

"I will kill both of you if you are pregnant and together," he told her, according to the complaint.

Wrobleski admitted to going to his daughter's apartment and said he picked up a cellular phone from her on May 24, the complaint says. At that time, he was charged with felony terroristic threats. The case, however, was ongoing at the time of his death. Wrobleski was also charged with misdemeanor domestic assault in Swift County District Court in September 2004.

The case was dismissed in February. Information on the alleged victim was not available.
