LAKEVILLE -- Martha Leona Harstad, 91, of Lakeville died Monday at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina after suffering a stroke. The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakeville. Burial will be at Mount Hope Ceme...

LAKEVILLE -- Martha Leona Harstad, 91, of Lakeville died Monday at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina after suffering a stroke.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakeville. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ashland, Wis.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by White Funeral Home in Lakeville.

She was born July 7, 1916, in Pennock. They later moved to Sanish (New Town), N.D. She graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead in 1938 and taught English in Middle River and Henning. She moved to Seattle, Wash., where she worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

She married Norman Harstad on Oct. 7, 1944, in Minneapolis. They lived in Elbow Lake, Amherst Junction, Wis., Mayville, N.D., Belview, Rochester, N.Y., Ashland, Wis., San Antonio and Brewster, Mass. She did substitute teaching in some of these cities. Norman died in 1993. She moved to Lakeville.

She is survived by eight children: Joan (and Charles) Ball of Surprise of Ariz., Craig (and Heidi) Harstad of Sussex, Wis., Gail Schuster of Columbia, Mo., Ralph (and Beth) Harstad of Fairport, N.Y., Ann Hengel of Minneapolis, Mark Harstad of Honolulu, Judy (and Blaine) Field of Spicer and Carol (and Barry) Pogatchnik of Lakeville; and 18 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and two sisters.
