STARBUCK -- Marvin Alford Thorson, 85, of Starbuck, died Dec. 13 at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

The service was Monday at East Zion Lutheran Church near Starbuck. Arrangements were by Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck.

He was born June 26, 1922, in Rolling Forks Township in Pope County to Alfred and Syverina (Mallum) Thorson.

He grew up in Rolling Forks and Langhei Townships and attended country school District 62.

He married Evelyn Lee on Aug. 31, 1944, in Minneapolis. He farmed south of Benson until 1951, then rural Starbuck from 1951 until 1966. From 1953 to the early 1960s, he also was a quality field inspector for Land O' Lakes. In the mid '60s through the early '70s, he was a heavy equipment operator doing road construction and worked many years on the construction of Interstates 94 and 90. He then drove truck for Cenex in Benson until he retired.

They moved to Benson in 2001 and then moved to Starbuck in July 2003. He lived in Minnewaska Apartments until June and then lived with his daughter Kristi and family in rural Glenwood until entering the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in October. He was a member of East Zion Lutheran Church and a Teamsters Union member for many years.

He is survived by six children: Connie (and Jerry) Wersinger of Benson, Diane (and Jim) Haugen of Blaine, Bradley (and Barbara) Thorson of Statesville, N.C., Jane (and Bill) Cross of Blaine, Bryan (and Toni) Thorson of Grand Rapids, and Kristi (and Dale) Carlson of Glenwood; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Alverna (and Wayne) Schumacher of Glenwood, and Elaine Espelien of Starbuck.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother.
