NEW LONDON -- Martin Oscar Sakariason, 95, of New London died Sunday at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in New London. Burial will be at Lebanon Cemetery in New London.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
He was born May 9, 1911, on the family farm in Lake Andrew Township to Anders and Marianna (Nelson) Sakariason. He grew up in rural New London and attended grade school in District 8. He worked as a farmhand in the area and then entered the U.S. Army in 1941. He served during World War II and received two Purple Hearts. He was discharged in 1945, returned home, and farmed east of Sunburg.

He married LaVerne Larson Gustafson on Sept. 3, 1964. They moved to their retirement home on the south shore of Lake Andrew in 1972. They moved to the village apartments at GlenOaks and later to the assisted living and care center.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on church council and various committees. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife; stepchildren: LaVonne Filla of Dayton, Wash., Francis (and Judy) Gustafson of Willmar, Loretta (and George) Ruter of Belgrade; 12 stepgrandchildren; 24 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and one sister Hazel Caskey of Raymond.
He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter: Charlotte Lund; one stepgranddaughter; three brothers and six sisters.
