HOLLOWAY -- Marvin Walter Matthies, 76, of Holloway died Wednesday at the Swift County-Benson Hospital.

The service will be 1 p.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Moyer Township, Swift County. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation continues one hour before the service today at the church. Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton is handling arrangements.

He was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Moyer Township, Swift County, to Paul and Louise (Franzmeier) Matthies. He attended District School 97 and graduated from Holloway High School.

He married Mary Keller at St. John's Lutheran Church on July 6, 1951. He took over the family farm and farmed his entire life, and did corn chopping and snow blowing for others in the area. He was a member of the Western Prairie Farm Collectors, the Swift County Dairy Herd Improvement Association and St. John's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by four children: Paulette (and Doug) Bork of Big Lake, Judy (and Roger) Michaelson of Rushford, Robert Matthies of Holloway, and Shirley (and Jim) Bartz of Benson; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister: Ruth Spohr of Hancock; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2004, one granddaughter, one step-grandson, one great-grandson and one brother.
