OLIVIA -- Mary Ellen Elbert, 80, of Olivia died Sunday at Golden Living Center in Olivia.
The service will be at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia, with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m., and from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 6, 1926, in Morton to George and Mary (Singer) Kinney. She graduated from Morton High School in 1944 and then graduated from Mankato State University with a teaching degree. She taught country school in rural Morton for several years.

She married Marvin Elbert on July 3, 1948, in Morton. They lived and farmed in rural Olivia for many years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the CCW.
She is survived by her children: Jim (and Mary Ann) Elbert of Silver Spring, Md., Marlyce (and Joe) McCoy of St. Peter, Bob (and Barb) Elbert of Olivia, Lois (and Ron) Lenz of Renville, Rose (and Gregg) Severson of Prior Lake, Rich (and Nancy) Elbert of Olivia, Bill Elbert of Pinole, Calif., Alan Elbert of Clara City, Mary Ann Neu of St. Joseph; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister: Margaret (and Bud) Thompson of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; and one brother.
