GLENWOOD -- Mayme Kalina, 86, died Friday at Good Samaritan Society - Glenwood Lakeview in Glenwood.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Scared Heart in Glenwood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood with a rosary at 4 p.m. and parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood.
She was born Dec. 17, 1921 to Tom and Mary (Sticha) Pavek in Reno Township near Glenwood. She and her father moved in with her paternal grandparents because her mother died shortly after childbirth. She was raised with five aunts and two uncles. She attended school in District 72. She married John (Johnny) Kalina in 1941 and they worked together on their farm. They also played together with his band, "Johnny's Orchestra." She was also a painter and painted the background mural for the diorama at the Pope County Museum. She belonged to a local artists club that met regularly and taught their skills to other aspiring artists.
She is survived by her son: Roger; and two granddaughters from San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992.
