Meeker County OKs right-of-way acquisition, swears in new commissioner

LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Board of Commissioners at the regular meeting Tuesday approved acquiring right of way for widening and reconstructing County Road 15.

LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Board of Commissioners at the regular meeting Tuesday approved acquiring right of way for widening and reconstructing County Road 15.

The road project, planned for 2008 and 2009, includes improving and grading seven miles from the southern county line north to U.S. Highway 12 in Collinwood Township, according to Meeker County Administrator Paul Virnig.

The current right of way is 33 feet and the county is seeking to expand it to 50 feet to accommodate the roadwork. The estimated cost of the project is $3.85 million.

In other action Tuesday:

- Wally Strand, who was elected commissioner for the county's Fourth District, was sworn into office. Strand, of Kimball, represents the northern portion of the county.

- The board elected Jim Swenson as chairman. Swenson represents the First District, which includes the city of Litchfield. Ron Kutzke, who represents the Fifth District, the southwest portion of the county, was elected vice chairman.
