LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Board decided Tuesday to advertise for a replacement for its county attorney.
Meeker County Attorney Mike Thompson was appointed to an open judge seat in the Eighth Judicial District last week by Gov. Tim Pawlenty. His last day as county attorney is Dec. 5. The position will be advertised for a few weeks. Any applicant must either live in Meeker County or move to the county upon taking office, county administrator Paul Virnig said.
The first assistant county attorney, Elizabeth Cummins, will serve as county attorney after Dec. 5 until the County Board appoints a new county attorney, Virnig said.
The appointed county attorney will serve until Thompson's term is up at the end of 2006. County elections will take place next fall.
Thompson has been county attorney since 1990 and served as assistant county attorney before being elected to office.

Also at the meeting, the board approved a quote for Web site services from Govoffice.com. The service will cost $3,295 and includes training, hosting, customer service, maintenance and software upgrades. The new Web site will make property tax information available online. The county hopes to launch the Web site by the first of the year, Virnig said.
The County Board also approved the Annual County Feedlot Officer report for 2005, which runs from July 1, 2004, through June 30. There are 333 registered feedlots in Meeker County with 291 having fewer than 300 animal units and 42 having 300 animal units or more.
