LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Board of Commissioners set two public hearings as part of the regular Tuesday meeting.

The board set a 9:15 a.m. Feb. 6 hearing on continuing the county's conservation subdivision moratorium for another six months. The additional time would allow the county to do a better job of developing the ordinances that govern development around lakes in the county, according to county planning and zoning administrator John Boe.

The board also set a public hearing at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 6 on a moratorium on development on the land that has been set aside for Greenleaf State Park.

The park was established by the state Legislature in 2004. This session area legislators are pushing for $1 million for the state to buy the land for the park. The location is six miles south of Litchfield around Greenleaf and Sioux lakes. The moratorium would prevent development on the land until the state funding becomes available.

- The board approved increasing road maintenance fees charged by the county to townships. In 2008, the cost will increase from $450 per mile to $500 per mile for maintaining the gravel roads in the summer and plowing in the winter, according to Paul Virnig, county administrator.

- The board granted permission to the Highway Department to purchase a John Deere road grader on the state contract. The county will trade in two older graders for a net cost of $123,963, Virnig said.
