Meeker County to ask for old highway building east of Litchfield

LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Board of Commissioners on Thursday authorized County Administrator Paul Virnig to request that the state transfer the old state highway building to the county.

LITCHFIELD -- The Meeker County Board of Commissioners on Thursday authorized County Administrator Paul Virnig to request that the state transfer the old state highway building to the county.

Site preparation is complete on the new joint county-state highway department building on the east side of Litchfield along U.S. Highway 12, Virnig said. Installation of pre-cast concrete walls is expected to begin around Dec. 18. The county cost of the new building is $3.6 million.The target date for the county Highway Department to move into the new facility is July. County officials have not decided specifically what the old highway shop would be used for, but several departments, including parks and the sheriff's office, have interest in using the building, Virnig said.
