Meeting is scheduled to address aging population

WILLMAR -- Willmar will be the host next week for a "Transform 2010" meeting, one in a series of meetings being held around the state to help state agencies prepare for a dramatic increase in the aging population.

WILLMAR -- Willmar will be the host next week for a "Transform 2010" meeting, one in a series of meetings being held around the state to help state agencies prepare for a dramatic increase in the aging population.

The meeting will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Willmar Conference Center.

Transform 2010 is a project of the Minnesota Department of Human Services in partnership with the Minnesota Board on Aging, the Minnesota Department of Health and other state agencies.

A variety of stakeholders on aging issues have been asked to participate.

Monday's meeting will include:

- Explanations of why the issue is urgent, both at the state and local level.

- Themes for action, including personal responsibility, family caregiving, livable communities, integrating and improving health care and long-term care, and ways to promote quality, choice and control for consumers.

- Current and future demographics and service capacity that will be needed to serve the elderly in each region of the state.

- Discussion of what action is needed at the state and local level to prepare for the future.
