City Council to meet tonight

WILLMAR -- The Willmar City Council will meet at 7 p.m. today in the council chambers at the Municipal Utilities Building, 700 Litchfield Ave. S.W.

Two hearings are planned. During the first hearing, the council will consider the proposed 2006 street and improvement report. During the second hearing, the council will consider the annual 6.35 percent rate increase for users of the wastewater treatment plant.

In other business, the council will take comments from the public during the open forum; will consider a zoning change to allow MinnWest Technology at the former Willmar Regional Treatment Center campus; and receive the reports of the Finance Committee, Public Works/Safety Committee, and the Labor Relations Committee.

Legislators invited to breakfast Saturday at Blue Heron

WILLMAR -- A look ahead to the upcoming session of the Minnesota Legislature is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Blue Heron on the Green in Willmar.

Legislators invited include Senate Majority Leader Dean Johnson, DFL-Willmar, and Reps. Al Juhnke, DFL-Willmar, Bud Heidgerken, R-Freeport, and Dean Urdahl, R-Grove City. They will talk about the upcoming session and how legislative issues could affect west central Minnesota. Time will be allowed for questions from the audience.

The Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Bremer Bank will sponsor the event. Doughnuts, juice and coffee will be provided.

The event is free to all chamber members and their guests. Those who are not chamber members will be charged $5 per person to help defray costs.

Those planning to attend must make reservations by calling the chamber at 235-0300 by noon Friday.
